Pines Rocks

Privacy

Last updated 21 August 2026

This policy covers pines.rocks and the software published by Pines Rocks. It is written in plain language and describes what actually happens.

This website

The site counts page views using a self-hosted installation of Umami, which is cookieless. It records the page visited, the referring site, and coarse details of the browser and country. It does not set cookies, does not fingerprint you, does not build a profile, and does not follow you to other websites. The data lives on our own server and is not shared with or sold to anyone.

There are no third-party trackers, advertising pixels, embedded social widgets, or shared analytics accounts on this site. The site sets no cookies of its own.

Pines Voice

Pines Voice runs on your Mac. We operate no server that it talks to, which means your audio and your transcripts cannot reach us even if we wanted them.

  • Local transcription. Audio is processed on your own machine and never leaves it.
  • Cloud transcription. If you choose a cloud engine, the app sends your audio directly from your Mac to the provider you supplied a key for, currently OpenAI or OpenRouter. That provider’s own privacy policy governs what they do with it. We are not in the path and receive no copy.
  • Transcripts, word counts and spend are stored on your Mac and computed there. Deleting the app’s data folder deletes them.
  • API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain and are sent only to the provider they belong to.
  • No account. There is nothing to sign up for and no profile to delete.

The app contacts the network for three things only: downloading a local model when you ask for one, transcribing when you have chosen a cloud engine, and checking for updates.

Buying something

Purchases are handled by our merchant of record, Polar. When you buy, Polar collects and processes the details needed to take payment, issue an invoice and meet tax obligations. Their privacy policy applies to that transaction. We receive the information needed to issue and support your licence, such as your email address and what you bought. We do not see your card details.

Email

If you write to support@pines.rocks we keep the correspondence so we can follow up and remember context if you write again. We do not add you to a mailing list from a support conversation.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy, or ask us to delete it, by writing to support@pines.rocks. In practice the answer is usually short, because most of what this policy describes never reaches us in the first place. For purchase records, Polar is the controller and can be asked directly.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes with it. See also our terms and refund policy.
